Often times, we speak on impulse. We speak without weighing the impact of the words until it has landed a huge blow on the listener. And a pleasant interaction becomes a battle ground. To undo the damage becomes impossible because words spoken are not retractable.
When God said, “so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it” (Isa.55.11.NIV), it strengthens the POWER of words.
Spoken words are like eggs. Once it falls on the ground, it cannot be put together again. It is important to think before we speak. It is good to choose our words carefully before pouring them out.
“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” (Eph.4.29.NIV)
All the destructions seen around us are the works of words spoken without wisdom; not nuclear weapons, not bombs and not guns. Truth that is not spoken in wisdom can turn to disaster. James encourages us to ask God for wisdom if we know we lack it (James 1:5)
Words can build and words can destroy. Do you need to destroy yourself, family, siblings, community or the nation? The weapon is in your tongue. The only repairer of such damage is Jesus Christ. And only those who have met Him can survive. All others have died and will continue to die in the havoc caused by the tongue.
The downside of the word we speak is that we shall all give account. “But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.” (Mat.12.36-37.NIV)
Tame your tongue by filling your hearts with the WORD of God. So that when you speak, you speak edifying words. Because out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks (Mat. 12:34)
WORD: “For, “Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech.” (1 Pet.3.10.NIV)
